Antonio CONCILIO
CIRA - the Italian Aerospace Research Centre, Italia

He earned his degree in aeronautics engineering with honors at the University of Napoli Federico II (Italy) in 1989, where he was also awarded his PhD in aerospace engineering in 1995. In 2007, he completed the ECATA Master course in Aerospace Business Administration, at ISAE-Supaero, Toulouse (France). His main research interests concern vehiclesnoise and vibration control for increased comfort and components protection, smart structural systems design, integrated sensor networks, and morphing.

Since 1989, he has been a researcher at the Italian Aerospace Research Centre (CIRA), Italy, where he is the Head of the Adaptive Structures Division, founded on July 1 2000 as the Smart Structures Laboratory. He led CIRA activities within several European Union (EU) and nationally funded research contracts on smart structures and noise and vibration control. He was the European scientific coordinator of the Identification of an Aircraft Passenger Comfort Index project (IDEA PACI, 1998) and the National Project Manager of the Design and Realization Methods of Intelligent Systems for the Monitoring and Control of Aeronautic and Aerospace Structures project (SMART, 2002-2006). He led an international team to develop, manufacture, and test an Adaptive Wing Trailing Edge (ATED) within the large EU Smart Aircraft Intelligent Structures project (SARISTU, 2011). Currently, he is leading the Italian team in an International project on SHM systems development (RESUME, 2020-ongoing).

Among the founders, he was a longtime secretary of the ex-Alumni Association of the Aerospace Engineers at the University of Naples Federico II (AIAN) and a member of the Italian Association for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA). He is a member of the International Society for Optics and Electronics (SPIE), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). He is a member of MP4EVER, a nonprofit organization supporting people with eating disorders, and their families. He is a founding member of the Spartacus Rugby Social Club.

Since 2005, he has been a lecturer on Smart Structures at the PhD School of the Federico II University. Since 2004, he has held courses on that subject for other Academies, and for postgraduate students from National programs funded by the Italian Ministry for Education and Research, and the Campania Region. In 2018, he earned the Italian National Qualification as Full Professor (ASN). According to Scopus, at the date he is author of 163 papers published in specialized journals or presented at conferences, with about 1540 citations in more than 800 documents. His H-index is 21 (Aug. 31, 2022).
